Over the weekend I did some research on the Pennsylvania State Police academy procedures. I myself have been considering going to the academy which is located in Hershey, PA. The academy runs for approximately 7 months and requires you to live there. Visitors are allowed on Sundays, but only on occasions. Cadets are allowed to go home on the weekends as long as they have completed all their tests with a score of 70% or better. Unfortunately, during my research I discovered that the academy has been put on hold for lack of funds. The PSP are looking for new sources to fund the program. The PSP program is a paid academy, which provides cadets a $1,500.00 paycheck bi-weekly before taxes. As of their last announcement, the October of 2009 class has been indefinitely delayed. So for anyone planning on filing an application form for the PSP, just be aware that you may not receive any feedback from them for quite some time, or not until they receive adequate funding. To read more about what exactly the PSP is all about, check out their website listed below.
